It is very painful when our kids do not comply to our instructions. We start nagging and this leads to strife and stress thereby spoiling relationship with the kid. We need to perfectly prompt our kids as follows:
1. Be clear and specific
Prompts must be clear and specific but not general. Do not use too general prompts like go clean your room: they are less effective. You can say, Tanko, pick up a broom or brush and go clean your room.
2. Use a gentle tone of voice and good facial expression.
3.Offer Choices: Giving of choices increases compliance. For example, you can say, Salasie, we are going to church, please put on your red or green shirt. The phrase ‘red or green shirt’ increases compliance.
4.Don’t give too many prompts at a time, it is called nagging.
