Negotiation involves you and the child participating in behavior decision making. Changing from sole decision maker when your teen was young to negotiations can be difficult for you. But adolescent will resist outright decision if they are not involved in decision making
Guidelines to help negotiation
1.Listen to what your adolescent says without jumping in.
2.Really listen, pay attention and hear the entire story your adolescent wishes to say or his side of the story.
3.Opposite of talking is not listening but just waiting for your turn to talk. So listen to your child
4.You are actively listening and genuinely hearing something that may sound irrational or naive or maybe not. Though not pleasant to your ears, Kindly listen to them
